LEMON AND GINGER TEA: Get rid of the sniffles

It seems like almost everyone I know is suffering from some type of cold or the sniffles, including myself! I say it’s time to get rid of the sniffles and get back to feeling 100 with this cold-busting tea. All it takes is a few little ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Ginger, lemon, Honey/Brown Sugar, Cayenne pepper & garlic..yes garlic just trust me on this one. But the best part is there’s no boiling involved all you need is a blender and hot water. I like to call it my lazy tea in a hurry. It’s so easy you’ll be making it all season.

This lemon and ginger tea kicks things up a notch with the ginger and cayenne and works wonders in just a few minuets. For my version, I really go crazy with the ginger and ease up on the chili because I confess I am a chili lightweight but ginger is definitely my friend. It helps tame my allergies and is a great tonic for just about anything. Have it hot or cold! It’s perfect for warming you up this season and keeping those nasty colds at bay. LEMON AND GINGER TEA RECIPE


Ingredients and their benefits


1 Cup fresh ginger (About 1 handful): Garlic is one of the most powerful antibiotics and antibacterial herbs on the planet. It is a powerful immune booster and a very important food for the allergy season.
1 Big Lemon ( with the skin peeled off including the pith): These sour little fruits are absolutely packed with vitamin C, which is essential to immune function.
1 Garlic clove: This herb has natural antihistamine properties, which makes it the perfect remedy for allergy seasons.
3-4 Tbsp Honey or Brown cane sugar: Honey has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, which help fuel the immune system.It is often used in many remedies to treat the flu and to help fight allergies.
¹/₂ Tsp cayenne pepper: It has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, which help reduce aches and pains associated with cold and flu. Because cayenne is hot, it also helps clear the sinuses when consumed in tea or in food.

Method:


Add the hot water and ginger to a blender then blitz until its blended. Don’t mind the froth you’ll strain the tea at the end. Next add a quartered lemon, garlic clove and blend once more. Finally, add the cayenne pepper and brown sugar if you’re using sugar instead of honey. Give it a final blend for about 30 seconds then grab a sieve and strain the tea into a container. (Best to strain it into a large container or pot, it easier.) Once you’ve squeezed all the tea out of the pulp store the tea in a flask and get ready to get cozy. Store the pulp in a container and use it to cook with any of your dishes.

If you decide to sweeten the tea with honey do it individually in each cup. Blending honey with a hot liquid kills the good enzymes in the honey and just causes it to froth up.

Recipe Tip: If you are a chili champ then you can amp up the chili to help sweat out more toxins.
